Scrambler Therapy

Break the Pain Cycle. Restore Possibility.
Scrambler Therapy is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment designed to retrain the way your nervous system communicates pain.
It’s safe, gentle, and backed by more than a decade of clinical research — and I am the only advanced-certified Scrambler Therapy provider in the Capital Region.
If you’ve been living with chronic nerve pain that you would describe as burning or tingling, or hypersensitivity that hasn’t responded to medications, injections, or traditional therapies… this might be the breakthrough you’ve been hoping for.

What is Scrambler Therapy?

What Scrambler Therapy Does
It doesn’t block nerves.
It doesn’t mask symptoms.
It retrains the pain message itself.

Your nerves are constantly sending signals to the brain. When pain becomes chronic, the nervous system can misfire — sending pain signals even when tissues are no longer damaged.
Scrambler Therapy uses gentle electrical code patterns to “override” these incorrect pain messages and replace them with normal, non-pain signals.
Over a series of sessions, the brain relearns how to interpret sensation accurately — leading to lasting relief.
Most people describe treatments as pleasant, warm, or subtly buzzing — never painful.

Conditions Scrambler Therapy Helps
Scrambler Therapy may help reduce or resolve pain from:
Neuropathic pain after injury

  • Nerve hypersensitivity
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Post-surgical nerve discomfort
  • Sciatica
  • Chronic lumbar or cervical radiculopathy
  • Chronic low back or neck pain
  • Burning, tingling, or electric pain patterns

Many clients come to me after years of trying:

  • Physical therapy
  • Massage
  • Chiropractic
  • Pain injections
  • Medications
  • Surgery
  • Rest/ice/heat/stretching

When those approaches don’t provide enough relief, Scrambler often succeeds because it targets the source of the pain message — the nervous system itself.

How Scrambler Therapy Works

Scrambler Therapy transmits real-time “non-pain” information into the skin using surface electrodes placed near, not on, the painful area.
These signals travel through the same nerve fibers that normally carry pain — but instead of more pain, the brain receives “normal” signals.
Over time:

  • Pain messages decrease
  • Normal sensation increases
  • Hypersensitivity calms
  • Function improves
  • Confidence and quality of life return
  • Patients often report: Decreased burning/tingling
  • Ability to walk, stand, or sleep more comfortably
  • Reduced need for medications
  • Increased mobility and endurance
  • Greater ease during daily activities

Treatment Course: What to Expect

Typical protocol: 10 sessions over 2 weeks
Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Pain relief can begin as early as the first few sessions, though the full cumulative effect builds over the entire course.
Sessions are:

  • Gentle
  • Non-invasive
  • Non-surgical
  • Drug-free
  • Relaxing

Where treatments happen:
In a quiet, private room intentionally designed to calm the nervous system.
Your plan is fully individualized.

Electrode placement, intensity, frequency, and progression are adjusted to your specific symptoms and changes day-to-day.

Who Is NOT a Candidate

Scrambler Therapy is not appropriate for individuals who have:

  • Spinal cord stimulators
  • Pacemakers
  • Pregnancy involving abdominal treatment
  • Open wounds or active infections in the treatment area
  • Uncontrolled medical conditions that would limit safe participation

If you’re unsure, I will help you determine suitability during a consultation.

I have metal implants. Is Scrambler Therapy contraindicated?

In most cases, no. Standard orthopedic hardware such as joint replacements, screws, plates, or rods are generally not a problem for Scrambler Therapy. During your consultation, we will review your medical history and any implanted devices to make sure treatment is appropriate and safe for you.

Can I use Scrambler Therapy if I have an implanted stimulation device?

Implanted stimulation devices such as spinal cord stimulators, pacemakers, or other electrical implants may be a contraindication for Scrambler Therapy in some cases. We will carefully review your medical history and devices during your consultation to determine whether treatment is safe and appropriate for you.

Is Scrambler invasive and are there side effects?

Scrambler Therapy is gentle electrical stimulation using surface electrodes. It is not invasive. There are no known side effects from Scrambler Therapy.

How long can I expect pain relief to last after a Scrambler session?

The duration of pain relief varies from person to person and depends on factors such as the condition being treated, overall health, and other contributing medical issues. Many people notice that relief builds progressively throughout the treatment series rather than from a single session alone. Some patients experience long-lasting relief after completing treatment, while others may benefit from occasional “booster” sessions if symptoms return months or even years later. During your consultation and treatment process, we will monitor your response closely and discuss what is realistic for your specific situation.

How long do sessions last?

The first session is an hour long to provide time for assessment and lead placement. Subsequent treatment times are 45-minutes.

How will I know if this treatment works for me?

Many patients notice some degree of change within the first few sessions, although responses can vary depending on the condition being treated and how long the pain has been present. Improvements may include decreased pain intensity, longer periods of relief, improved sleep, increased activity tolerance, or reduced sensitivity in the painful area. We will monitor your response throughout the treatment series and discuss whether Scrambler Therapy appears to be a good fit for you.

What will I feel with stimulation?

You should feel a tingling or vibrating sensation under the electrodes. Treatment should feel comfortable. It is imperative to communicate with the provider at all times. Biting or stinging sensations must be addressed.

Do I need to combine medications or treatments with Scrambler?

Scrambler Therapy can be used alongside many other medical treatments and medications, and in some cases a combined approach may be beneficial. However, every situation is different. Some patients are able to reduce their reliance on certain treatments over time, while others continue with a broader care plan. Your treatment approach will be individualized based on your condition, goals, and response to therapy.

Can Scrambler cure me?

Scrambler Therapy is not considered a cure, and no medical treatment can guarantee permanent results for every person. The goal of treatment is to reduce pain, improve function, and help calm abnormal pain signaling in the nervous system. Some patients experience long-lasting relief, while others may require periodic booster sessions or additional therapies as part of a broader treatment plan.

Is Scrambler Covered by insurance?

At this time, Scrambler Therapy is generally not covered by insurance. However, an itemized receipt including the appropriate billing information and NPI number can be provided upon request. Some patients have been successful in obtaining partial reimbursement through their insurance or health savings accounts, although reimbursement cannot be guaranteed.

How much does Scrambler Therapy cost?

Scrambler Therapy begins with a free consultation to determine whether you may be an appropriate candidate for treatment. The first treatment session is $175. Subsequent treatment sessions are $300 each, and booster sessions, when needed, are $200. During your consultation, we will discuss what type of treatment plan may be most appropriate for your individual situation.
